Ocean Melody
“Ocean Melody” is a site-specific art piece made out of re-used cardboard, illustrating a conch shaped shell, located between the music department buildings at UCSC campus. As a Marine Biology and Art major, I wanted to combine my two passions and create a sea organism, but at the same time relate its beauty with the gorgeousness of the UCSC campus, the view of the ocean and the mesmerizing melodies the music department produces. “Ocean Melody” is meant to be experienced both visually and audibly. The sound of the ocean and of crashing waves can be heard from the opening of the shell while the background is the natural and diverse vegetation of the Santa Cruz mountains and the horizon line, separating the ocean from the sky.
